Setting your business up for success involves a number of factors. You will want to make sure you have invested in the right personnel to be able to execute the services you offer. Once you are confident in your product or service, you need to give your company as much visibility as possible. That visibility can come in a number of ways. A successful business requires some investment, both financial and time. Staff: Hiring the right personnel can be tricky. If you are not an experienced interviewer, you want to look for some basic red flags. Your candidates should be able to look you in the eye when answering a question, elaborate on where they add value to your business, understand the business model, and ask questions that clarify and bring further insight. If your potential candidates are not doing those things, put them immediately in the ‘maybe’ stack, or even the ‘discard.’ Once you have the staff you need, secure the position your company needs for success. Location: You will need an optimal location for potential customer visibility as well as access to supplies and deliveries/pick-ups. Be sure to pick a space that fits your business model. If you will be taking a lot of walk-ins, do not sign a lease to a location with absolutely no foot traffic. If you rely on a fast internet connection, absolutely avoid a rural location or a spot in an industrial sector without high-speed internet. Visibility: You need your clients to see your logo and product/services. Internet positioning is one thing, but you can never forget the power of physical brochures and hand-outs. Take some time to create some visually stunning representations of your services or products. With these in hand whenever you meet a potential client, you will be sure to give them something to think about. It certainly is not easy to get the right combination of staff, location, and visibility, but it is attainable. Put some effort into getting the right staff and you are halfway there. Once you have picked the right location and secured the best media for representing your company, you are ready to wow potential clients and secure renewed interest from customers.
